Emerging Fuels Technology (EFT), founded in 2008 by Kenneth Agee with partners Dr. Kym Arcuri and Dr. Rafael Espinoza is housed in a stand-alone facility designed specifically to support catalyst development research. EFT offers a broad range of catalyst development, catalyst testing, analytical services, engineering and consulting services. These services are generally associated with EFT’s core competency in the areas of Fischer-Tropsch and related synthesis gas and hydroprocessing chemistry.

Synthesis gas chemistries (H2+ CO → hydrocarbons) are catalytic processes that include the Fischer-Tropsch process as well as other catalyst systems developed to convert synthesis gas to methanol, ethanol, higher alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and olefins. Many of the products generated in these processes can be used in transportation fuels and may need to be hydrotreated and hydro processed to meet specific fuel requirements. Fischer-Tropsch products are good examples of materials that need to be hydrotreated/hydroprocessed to generate finished products that meet ASTM fuel requirements such as D-975 for diesel fuel. The resources at Emerging Fuels Technology can be used to develop catalyst systems, evaluate their performance in a laboratory reactor system, analyze product yields, convert products to transportation fuels and develop an engineering design for a final commercial plant.
